COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PROJECT
Launched in 2014 at the Triennale, Milan, the Kanjian brand was established to fulfill three key objectives: empowering minority communities, reinvigorating the global markets appetite for traditional Chinese and Mongolian craftsmanship and honouring heritage skills. The brand has enlisted international designers including Tom Dixon, Neri & Hu, Michael Young and Chi Wing Lo to re-contextualise techniques and fabrications for a modern audience.

The Kanjian project enable us to unite the global design community with traditional Chinese craftsman and time-honoured techniques. In an endeavour to reinvigorate both a passion for hand craftsmanship and the economy’s of regional Chinese communities we introduce internationally renowned designers with local craft communities to produce a vibrant collection of objet. Utilising curatorial expertise and a global design network, our goal was to bring visibility and new relevance to long established manufacturing skills and a commercial life back to fading industries.
